Lilongwe Water board (LWB) says uncoordinated planning of the city by Lilongwe City Council has been one of the problems facing the board.
Executive director for LWB, Alfonso Chikuni made the remarks and said unorganised planning of the city has cost them a lot of money.
“There have been challenges which sometimes had cost us so much money whereby we find it hard to connect other areas where more pipes are required,” said Chikuni.
He added that they will team up with the council and other stakeholders during the board’s 2015/2020 strategic plan to curb the problems facing the board.
Last year, the board said that it had almost finished upgrading its water treatment plant, which is aimed at ending water problems in the city.
The upgrading cost the board US$8.7 million which also includes cost for the construction of a concrete water treatment unit.
