Vice president Saulos Chilima has commended the Malawi Law Society (MLS) for making strides to protect people who use financial services.

Speaking at the opening of the MLS annual conference, Chilima said financial regulations are important to the economy of the country.

“Financial regulations are crucial in the socio-economic development of the country,” said Chilima.

He added that government is putting in place reforms for the financial sector so that the rights of financial services consumers are protected from exploitation.

”We are making strides to protect the rights of financial service consumers and government is implementing reforms in the financial sector,” he said.

Chilima further said that government has been enacting laws to protect consumers.

He however warned people who call themselves experts to stop the tendency of criticising as they end up commenting on things they don’t understand and in the end confuse Malawians.
