Blantyre Magistrate court has sentenced a 43 year old man to 13 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) for raping an 8 year-old girl.
The convict, Elaton Chiwoko was arrested after committing the offence of defilement, which is contrary to section 138 of Malawi’s penal code, on the night of 12 February.
State prosecutor from Chileka Police Dingi Mbepula told the court that the evil man asked for a place to sleep at the little girl’s home and at night he woke up and raped the girl while her parents were sleeping.
In his ruling, Blantyre magistrate Kondanani Chinangwa argued that the convict deserved a tough punishment following the increase in defilement cases.
Due to the increase in rape cases, Malawi government through the ministry of Gender, Children and social welfare issued a warning that government will make sure the sickening behaviour is curbed.
