A pressure group called People’s Party Young Democrats has called for the head of the party’s acting president, Uladi Mussa.

The group mostly comprises young people, and it is believed that members of the group are the ones who disrupted a People’s Party (PP) meeting organised by Mussa.

Some party top officials from the rebellious faction have told Malawi24 that the grouping is supporting Christopher Mzomera Ngwira, who was expelled from the PP.

Mussa: Not wanted.

“For your own information, they say Ngwira remains the party’s provincial chair for the north,” said the source.

He added that the group has since told Ngwira to stand firm and disregard reports that he has been fired since the people who expelled him do not have any authority.

According to the source, the group holds meetings to strategize on how they can bring down Mussa’s presidency.

“They feel Ngwira can never be fired because Mussa and Kamlepo found him already building the party with madam JoyceBanda and Khumbo Kachali,” he added.

The source maintains that the grouping also supports Ngwira’s proposal for Kachali to lead the party in the absence Banda who is in exile.

However, Ngwira declined to comment on the matter but only maintained that he is yet to receive official communication regarding his firing.

“Ask me later when I receive official communication. As of now I have nothing to say,” he stated.

On his part, PP general secretary Ibrahim Matola emphasized that Ngwira’s services are no longer needed in the party and he should accept that he has been fired.

He said: “In fact, we are waiting to communicate to Parliament on the same so that they know that Ngwira is independent and not our member.”
