The 26 year old netball star is on the verge of being named as the 2015 International World Games Association (IWGA) athlete of the year award after taking a massive lead over her competitors.
She has now reached 15 thousand votes whilst her strongest opponent is yet to reach 5 thousand votes. Kumwenda is the only African athlete competing in the New Zealand, the World’s best netball league.
According to statistics for the World Cup netball tournament where she was named the player of the tournament, she had a shot success rate of 91 percent and netted 321 goals in eight games for Malawi Nation Netball team (the Queens).
If she she is succesful, she will become the first Malawian athlete to be honoured with such an award.
The former Escom United shooter is the only African represantative competing for the award.
The voting session will be clossed on 31 January.
Malawians have been supportive in the on-going voting period and from the look of things, she will get the award.
