Solicitor General and Secretary for Justice, Janet Banda, has revealed that the Malawi government will not be bullied into changing the country’s anti-gay laws to embrace homosexuality.

While echoing Justice Minister Samuel Tembenu’s earlier remarks following a meeting United States’ special envoy on Homosexuality that Malawi will allow debate on the matter so that people are informed, Banda said the country’s position is very clear and that the so called anti-gay laws will not be changed.

According to published reports, the Solicitor General said there is a general consensus among the people indicating that Malawi is not ready to embrace homosexuality.

She however said that the country will try to prevent violence against gays and all other people who indulge in same sex activities, a move that follows remarks by People’s Party spokesperson, Ken Msonda, that all gays in Malawi should be killed by cutting off their heads.
