Malawi have climbed three places to 106 in the latest FIFA world rankings, released on Thursday, Malawi24 can confirm.

The Flames dropped to position 109 after losing to Tanzania 2-1 on aggregate in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

From there, Malawi took part in the Cecafa tournament in Ethiopia as a guest nation but their journey ended in the quarter-finals after losing 2-nil to the Cranes of Uganda.

Since then, the Flames have been out of action and their next assignment is the 2017 crucial African Cup of Nations qualifier away to Guinea in March before the second leg at Bingu National Stadium a week later.

Currently, Belgium remain top of the global standings, ahead of Argentina and Spain. Algeria remain top of African continent and they are 28 in the World.
