Fired northern region provincial chairperson for Malawi opposition People’s Party (PP), Christopher Mzomera Ngwira, has maintained that there is a leadership vacuum in the party and this will eventually sink the party. Earlier, Ngwira endorsed Khumbo Kachali as an interim president of the party.

Reacting to Mzomera’s endorsement, the National Executive Committee (NEC) for the party suspended him on the basis that he was confusing the party.

Recently, Mzomera is on record to have said again that Kachali should lead the party as an interim president.

Ngwira said the party needs a leader who can address some challenges that have rocked it.

“The party needs someone who can take the duties of the party’s president like holding rallies, this gives strength to a party but when I suggest that people think I am a rebel.

“But I am doing that because I love the party, those who are trashing what I said wants to been seen holy so that they can save their positions in the party, gradually the party is sinking,” said Mzomera.

Some political analysts have also called for the return of the party’s president Joyce Banda if the party is to find its way before the 2019 general elections.

Following her defeat in May 2014 Tripartite Elections, the PP president has been seen globetrotting claiming that she is doing international assignments.
