As physical and sexual abuse keeps affecting lives of young women and children, tgovernment through the ministry of gender, children, disability and social welfare has organised a national day of prayers today meant to pray for God’s intervention.

Principal secretary in the ministry of gender, children, disability and social welfare, Mary Shawa, said the prayers will take place at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe.

She said they thought of organising the prayers because violence against young women and children is widespread in the country.

“Violence has worsened in the country as it has become an epidemic and it starts with parents going to children then children end up abusing their own children because they think that’s the way life goes,” said Shawa.

She further said that as a ministry they will embark on a campaign to sensitise people so that they know how to protect their children and that everyone should take responsibility in fighting against violence.

The prayers, which have been organised in conjunction with Malawi Interfaith Aids Association, UNICEF, and DFID, will also give a chance for Malawi to launch violence against children campaign.
