Member of Parliament for Rumphi East Kamlepo Kalua claims that Malawi’s  ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) intends to assassinate him.

Kalua made the claims in an interview with a local media house.

“I am not surprised, this is not for the first time, when someone gets you arrested without a crime just know that that person wants your life and I was arrested for three months and ten days for calling the late Bingu ‘aka ka ngwazi’ during a political rally in Zomba.”

“This time around women have been assigned after my life to poison me but it will not work because I know all that,” said Kalua.

Kalua is on record to have criticized the ruling DPP for the purchase of vehicles for top government officials at a cost of K3 billion amid the economic shakeup the country is going through.

Kamlepo alleged in Parliament that government has bought 14 vehicles for State House, two for the vice president, 10 for principal secretaries and 30 for other government officials.

“Even the car that was used by minister of information to travel to a funeral where he was chased it’s a brand new vehicle,” he said.

Reacting to the claims, minister of Information Jappie Mhango said the statement Kalua made in Parliament was “mere propaganda” as government has not procured any vehicles and asked the MP to produce evidence.
