Malawi super league rookies Mzuzu University- Mzuni FC on Sunday afternoon beat town rivals Moyale Barracks 2-1 at Mzuzu Stadium to take control over the Northern region city in the sport.
Dan Katunga put the soldiers ahead with a header just 9 minutes into the first half.
The goal provoked Mzuni students who mounted a lot of pressure into Moyale Barracks.
Due to the pressure this made the soldiers defence to foul Wacheta Mwenefumbo in the 18 yard box, a development that resulted into a penalty in favor of Mzuni. Lughindiko Mushani failed to convert the penalty leaving the soldiers up with a goal to nil until halftime.
In the second half, Mzuni players came with another strategy as it was coming wave after wave and it was not a surprise to see Mwenefumbo equalizing for Mzuni.
Few minutes later, Moyale had a chance but Mzuni defender Mabuchi Nkosi cleared it away.
Thanks to a late goal from Lughindiko that came 10 minutes before the end of the match to make it 2-1 in favor of Mzuni.
