Amid reports that the Malawi government has requested about US$388 million from Global Fund for HIV/AIDS interventions and also for 40 thousand homosexual men, activists in the country say this shows that government knows that everyone has the right to good health.

Executive Director for Centre for Development of the people Gift Trapence who has been advocating for minority rights in the country says the Global Fund proposal and funding shows that Malawi recognises that everyone has the right to good health despite their sexual orientation.
“We applaud government for putting in place policy issues that include everyone who would be affected by HIV and homosexuals are not an exception,” said Trapence.
He called on government to make sure that everyone has the right to receive health care because human rights look at everyone without looking at their sexual orientation.
However, Evangelical Association of Malawi which is an umbrella body of 50 Christian organisation has urged government not to bow down to proposals made by some individuals and Non-governmental Organisations who are lobbying for same sex marriages saying government should keep Malawi’s cultural values.
