Huge loan forces man to kill himself in Dedza

A 27 year old Malawian man in Dedza district has committed suicide after he failed to pay back a loan he owe a lending institution, police say.

The deceased, Chikondi Fuleza died after he hanged himself earlier this week.

According to investigations by Dedza Police station, the deceased borrowed K310 000 from a money lending institution, Concern Universal Microfinance Operation (CUMO) and managed to settle only K100, 000.

Dedza Assistant Police Publicist Cassim Manda said the sheriff went to the deceased house and confiscated solar panel, battery and inventor as items set to be equivalent to the remaining dues.

“These are some of the things that stressed Fuleza up to extent of committing suicide” said Manda.

A post mortem result from Dedza Hospital reveals that Fuleza died due to strangulation.

Fuleza hailed from Ndemalisi Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kamenyagwaza in Dedza district.
