A K100,000 Player of the Match award at Masters FC is being positioned as more than just a reward for outstanding performances, with its sponsor hoping the initiative can contribute to the development of footballers who could eventually serve the Malawi national team.

Chisomo Electronics has partnered with Masters FC to provide K100,000 to the Player of the Match in every game throughout the second half of the season, covering both FDH Premiership and domestic cup matches.

The initiative comes as Masters enter an important stage of the season, with the club currently sitting fifth in the FDH Premiership and targeting a place among the top four.

Chisomo Electronics CEO Chisomo Saidi said the decision to support Masters was driven by the company’s desire to contribute to Malawian football while motivating players to improve their performances.

“Masters ndi team yatsopano, it’s been less than a year in the top flight league, it’s a Malawian team led by fellow Malawians, so we thought it wise to partner them by awarding Player of the Match to match-day outstanding players,” Saidi said.

According to Saidi, the financial reward is intended to give players an additional reason to push themselves and improve their performances whenever they take to the pitch.

He said the company believes that stronger motivation at club level can contribute to the development of players who can eventually make an impact on the national team.

“Another challenge to poor results of national team is not motivation to clubs, but we think this will help improve both club and national team and we want to see Masters FC produce professional players,” Saidi said.

Masters FC Digital Marketing and Fan Engagement Officer Roy View Banda said the award comes at a crucial stage of the season, with players now having an additional incentive to give their best in every match.

He said knowing that K100,000 is at stake in every match could encourage players to give their maximum effort, while the partnership will also give Chisomo Electronics visibility through Masters FC’s social media platforms and match-day activities.

Masters FC CEO Kevin Moyo described the partnership as an indication of the growing interest in the club and said the incentive could add another dimension to the team’s campaign.

Moyo said Masters are aiming to use the second half of the season to challenge for a top-four position, while the partnership is expected to benefit both parties as the club provides Chisomo Electronics with brand exposure in return for its investment in the players.

Masters FC midfielder Hastings Ndau said the sponsorship has come at the right time, with the second round expected to be crucial for the club’s ambitions.

Ndau said the additional motivation provided by the award will encourage the players to raise their performances and promised that the squad will use the partnership to improve during the second half of the season.
