But what the two men allegedly did not know was that the traditional healer had already tipped off the police.
Nelson Kabichi, 27, and Fredson Kashaka, 39, walked into a police trap on the morning of September 29, 2026, at Kaloga Trading Centre after allegedly arriving with the placenta.
Ntcheu deputy police spokesperson Constable Beatrice Mlauzi said the two had approached the traditional healer seeking medicine that would help them steal cattle.
According to Mlauzi, the men agreed to bring a placenta and meet the healer at Tsangano Turn-off so that he could prepare the medicine.
Instead of keeping the secret, the healer alerted police and agreed to work with officers to catch the suspects.
Police then arranged to meet the two men, leading to their arrest.
When questioned, the suspects allegedly told police that Kabichi had bought the placenta in Mozambique.
Kashaka comes from Mchacha Village under Senior Chief Mlolo, while Kabichi comes from Mchacha Village under Senior Chief Mbenje in Nsanje District.
The two remain in police custody as investigations continue.
