Rapper Evanz Muzik has blasted Eli Njuchi’s new album “Maga,” rating the 8 track project just 52.5% and questioning why it carries no tribute to the five Hive Band members who died in a road accident.
Hours after the album dropped on Friday, Evanz fired the first shot on Facebook: “Iyi nde Njuchi wayimbira Kosoma.”
The post spread like wildfire. Malawi24 caught up with him for answers and he did not hold back.
“Almost the whole EP is about love, like it’s Valentine’s Day already,” said Evanz, who was recently conferred a Master of Business Administration in China.
“I, for one, expected at least a tribute or a sad song reflecting on what we all know happened some months ago.”
In 2025, five young musicians from Eli Njuchi’s Hive Band lost their lives in a road accident, a tragedy that shook the industry.
For Evanz, an album drowned in love songs, released in the shadow of that loss, simply missed the moment.
Still, the rapper insists his criticism comes from a place of love.
He remains a big Eli Njuchi fan and admits songs like “Aye” and “Cross” have won him over.
The “Maga” album may be a love letter to the fans. But for Evanz, it arrived at the wrong time.
Born 2001, Eli Njuchi, real name Chifuniro Magalasi, is one of Malawi’s brightest Gen Z stars. His lyrical prowess knows no age limit. His music resonates with listeners young and old.
