Malawi Queens’ hopes of reaching the Africa Netball Cup final have been shattered after South Africa pulled away in the second half to end Malawi’s title hopes in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Queens started strongly and matched South Africa in the opening quarter, with the two sides level at 14-14 before South Africa took control and led 29-25 at halftime.
South Africa extended the advantage to 44-35 by the end of the third quarter before completing a 62-46 victory.
Malawi’s national netball team, the Malawi Queens, have missed out on a place in the Africa Netball Cup final after losing 62-46 to South Africa in the semi final in Nairobi, Kenya.
The South Africans continued to extend their advantage in the third quarter, going into the final break with a 44-35 lead.
Malawi struggled to overturn the deficit in the final quarter as South Africa maintained their dominance to complete a 62-46 victory.
The result sends South Africa into the final, while Malawi will now play for third place against the loser of the other semi-final between Uganda and Namibia.
Despite the defeat, the Queens have already secured a place at the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia, after reaching the semi finals of the African tournament.
