US Embassy salutes Malawi police

The United States Embassy has praised the Malawi Police Service for the safe rescue of British national Nusrat Osman, who was abducted in Blantyre.

In a statement, the embassy congratulated the police for successfully securing Osman’s release and commended officers involved in the operation.

“Congratulations to the Malawi Police Service on the successful, safe rescue of Ms. Nusrat Osman well done!” the embassy said.

The embassy also singled out Deputy Inspector General of Police Dr Noel Kayira, who was injured while leading the operation to rescue Osman.

“A special salute to Deputy Inspector General Dr. Noel Kayira, injured while bravely leading this mission. Your courage inspires us,” it said.

The US Embassy further wished Kayira a speedy recovery, saying “Wishing you a speedy recovery, Sir get well soon!”

Osman’s rescue followed a police operation in which officers engaged suspected kidnappers, with Kayira sustaining gunshot wounds during the confrontation
