Malawians are being reminded of former President Bingu wa Mutharika and Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe as leaders whose vision and economic discipline offer lessons for tackling the country’s current challenges.
UTM Party president Dalitso Kabambe has pointed to the late Bingu and Gondwe as examples of the leadership he says Malawi needs to reclaim its lost potential.
Kabambe says the two leaders left behind lessons in vision, discipline and patriotism that could help steer the country towards recovery.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Kabambe said the two leaders demonstrated that Malawi’s potential is limitless when guided by vision, discipline and integrity.
“Malawi’s history, certain figures stand out as beacons of hope, resilience, and unwavering dedication. Among them, the late Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika and the esteemed Dr. Goodall Gondwe shine brightest,” Kabambe wrote.
He described Bingu wa Mutharika as a bold dreamer whose policies renewed national hope, and Gondwe as the disciplined hand that helped stabilise and grow the economy.
Kabambe said Malawi has in recent years diverged from the path set by the two leaders, citing corruption, political experimentation and complacency as disruptive forces threatening to undo past progress.
The UTM leader said the country must speak openly about its challenges and reclaim its potential with discipline, unity and patriotism.
He therefore said that Malawi’s best days are still ahead and called for unity of purpose to build a Malawi that works for all.
