Vice President Jane Ansah has visited Deputy Inspector General of Police responsible for Operations, Mlowoka Noel Kayira, who is recovering from gunshot wounds.

Kayira is receiving treatment at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre after he was shot during Thursday’s police operation in Mpemba/Chadzunda that led to the rescue of British national Nasrat Osman, who police said had been kidnapped on September 11.

The operation reportedly turned into an exchange of gunfire after officers confronted suspects allegedly armed with an AK-47 rifle and a Girsan Regard MC pistol.

Police said the suspects sustained gunshot wounds and later died, while Kayira was evacuated to Mwaiwathu Private Hospital for treatment.

After the visit, Ansah said she had gone to check on Kayira’s condition, encourage him and wish him a speedy and full recovery.

“The men and women in our security services often put their lives on the line to protect others, and their dedication and sacrifice deserve our recognition,” Ansah said.

She also prayed for strength for Kayira, his family and other security personnel as they continue serving the nation.
