British national Nusrat Osman, who was abducted in Mount Pleasant, Blantyre last Friday, has been rescued and safely reunited with her family.
Osman’s brother, Shobi Jiwa, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Noel Kayira was shot during the rescue operation but survived the incident and is currently out of danger.
Jiwa did not reveal where the operation took place or provide details about the people who were holding Osman.
He, however, praised Kayira for his bravery during the operation, saying the senior police officer was wounded while helping to rescue his sister.
Police had earlier reported that Osman, 47, was abducted in Mount Pleasant, with four men allegedly involved in the incident. The suspects were reportedly travelling in a grey Nissan Dualis, registration number CA 6956.
Following the abduction, the Malawi Police Service offered a K30 million reward for credible information that could lead to Osman’s rescue and the arrest, prosecution and conviction of those responsible.
Osman’s safe return comes six days after her abduction, bringing an end to the search for the British national.
