Nine months of waiting has now turned into a seven-day countdown for the Registrar General’s Office to act on the registration of a foundation seeking to support struggling students.
The People Over Politics Foundation applied for registration in January 2026 and says it has since completed all requirements and processes demanded by the relevant authorities.
However, the organisation says it has yet to receive a substantive response on the status of its application.
In a demand letter dated September 15, 2026, lawyer Jefferson Luwa, representing the foundation, says the prolonged delay is now affecting the organisation’s ability to carry out its work.
According to the letter, the foundation has missed an opportunity to receive a donation of laptops intended for distribution to students from less privileged backgrounds.
The organisation says the unresolved registration is also hampering programmes designed to support students in institutions of higher learning who face financial and material challenges.
Luwa has therefore given the Registrar General’s Office seven days to address the matter.
Failure to act within the given period, the foundation says, will leave it with no option but to consider legal action to compel the authorities to deal with its registration application.
The delay has also triggered questions over why the registration process has remained unresolved since January.
Some quarters have raised claims that the delay could be politically motivated.
However, the claims have not been independently established, while the Registrar General’s Office has yet to publicly explain why the application has not been concluded.
The People Over Politics Foundation was launched by former government minister Mumba, who served during the administration of former President Lazarus Chakwera.
The seven-day ultimatum now leaves the Registrar General’s Office facing pressure to clarify the status of the application and explain the prolonged delay.
