A Blantyre businessman has been killed after a mob allegedly set him on fire in Lunzu after mistaking him for a thief.
The deceased has been identified as Fixon Mexins Wa Menyauti.
Chileka Police spokesperson Jonathan Philipo has confirmed the incident, saying Menyauti had travelled to Lunzu to have his motorcycle repaired and was returning when he was stopped by unidentified people.
According to Philipo, the people started shouting that Menyauti was a thief, prompting a crowd to gather at the scene.
The crowd allegedly attacked Menyauti before setting him on fire, resulting in his death.
Police have since launched investigations to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
