Malawi national football team coach Kalisto Pasuwa has named a provisional squad for the Flames Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.
Pasuwa has selected a 30 player squad featuring a blend of local based players and Malawians plying their trade abroad as the Flames begin preparations for the continental qualifiers.
The squad has three goalkeepers, eight defenders, 10 midfielders and 10 forwards.
Among the goalkeepers are William Thole of Simba Bhora, George Chikooka of Silver Strikers and Precious Masamba of Blue Eagles.
The defensive department includes Macdonald Rameck, Gomezgani Chirwa, Dennis Chembezi, Emmanuel Nyirenda, Charles Petro, Blessings Mpokera, Peter N’gambi and Ajussa Kalowa.
In midfield, Pasuwa has selected Blessings Kanowa, Yankho Singo, Oscar Petro, Washali Jaziya, Blessings Singini, Lloyd Njaliwa, Mwisho Mhando, Festus Chimaliro, Francisco Madinga and Jorden Kananga.
The attacking department features Babatunde Adepoju, Ephraim Kondowe, Chifundo Mpasi, Richard Mbulu, Patrick Mwaungulu, Gaddie Chirwa, Wisedinho Mpinganjira, Mayele Malango, Shaquille Gwengwe and Adiel Kaduya.
The squad includes players from clubs in Malawi as well as those based in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the United States and the United Kingdom.
Pasuwa will now work with the selected players as the Flames prepare for their AFCON qualifying assignments, with the coach expected to use the provisional squad to assess his options before settling on the final team.
The squad announcement marks the beginning of Malawi’s preparations as the Flames seek to secure qualification for the next AFCON tournament.
