A health worker has been found dead in Ntcheu, leaving police probing a killing that has already led to two arrests.

Police have arrested two 27-year-old men, Emmanuel Mapepa and Mulakho, in connection with the death of Sikenala Kapachika, a Health Surveillance Assistant (HSA) from Chimwaye Village in the area of Senior Chief Kwataine.

Ntcheu Police spokesperson Inspector Jacob Khembo said the two are suspected of killing Kapachika last month after they allegedly feared their sister could be arrested following allegations that she had undergone an abortion.

According to Khembo, Kapachika had taken the woman to hospital for medical examination after the abortion allegations emerged.

Khembo said on the night Kapachika took the woman to hospital, the two suspects went to his home, where they allegedly assaulted him.

He said a postmortem examination established that Kapachika died from head injuries and excessive blood loss.

The suspects allegedly fled the area after the incident but were arrested on Friday in Ekwendeni, Mzimba.

They have since been taken to Ntcheu Police Station, where they are expected to answer murder charges.
