A video clip showing seven suspects recounting events surrounding the murder of Dr. Victoria Bobe has become a key piece of evidence in the ongoing High Court trial in Blantyre, as the State continues presenting its case.
Police Detective Assistant Superintendent Christopher Pangeti on Wednesday played the footage in court, showing the suspects speaking after their arrest and allegedly detailing how the crime was committed.
According to the State, the suspects admitted involvement in the murder during the recordings, despite pleading not guilty when they appeared before the same court on Tuesday.
Pangeti told the court that the video alone was not sufficient evidence and asked that the court visit the crime scene to connect the footage with what was found at Dr. Bobe’s residence in Chigumula Township.

High Court Judge Ruth Chinangwa has since adjourned the case to Thursday afternoon for the court to visit the scene of the crime.
The murder of Dr. Bobe attracted public concern, with some questioning police claims after suspects were initially paraded from Chichiri Prison. However, the appearance of the seven accused persons in court has challenged claims that the real suspects had not been arrested.
The suspects, Charles Chikopa, Maxwell Elia, Rafic Abdul Hassan, Santos Chamamba, Peter Chimenya, Issa Ali and Peter Mphepo, are facing murder-related charges.
On Tuesday, two witnesses, Dr. Bobe’s husband Yamikani Bobe and neighbour Jimmy Kanyerere, testified before the court and were cross-examined by defence lawyer Goba Chipeta.
Dr. Bobe, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, was shot dead at close range by armed criminals at her residence on 17 November 2025, who went away with a laptop and other items.
