MRA exceeds three-month revenue target by K20 billion

MRA

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has exceeded its revenue collection target for the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year after collecting K20 billion more than projected between April and June.

The tax collecting body says the strong performance reflects continued efforts to improve revenue mobilisation as government seeks to raise more domestic resources to support national development.

According to a statement posted on its Facebook page, MRA collected K1.398 trillion during the three-month period against a target of K1.378 trillion.

The authority says the achievement comes as it continues implementing measures aimed at strengthening tax compliance, widening the tax base and improving efficiency in revenue collection.

MRA has set an annual revenue collection target of K6.2 trillion for the 2026/27 financial year, which runs from April 2026 to March 2027.

The authority has previously emphasized the importance of increased domestic revenue mobilisation to reduce reliance on external support and ensure government can finance essential services and development programmes.
