The Lilongwe Magistrate Court has postponed the case involving eight individuals accused of insulting government workers during a protest on March 19, 2025, to April 17, 2026.

The postponement follows the testimony of three prosecution witnesses, bringing the total number of witnesses presented by the state to five.

The three witnesses who testified are employees at Kamuzu Central Hospital and Area 18 in Lilongwe, as well as a protest leader.

The state’s decision to present these witnesses is part of its efforts to build a case against the accused.

Prosecutor Prescott Mwayiulipo stated that the state still has three more witnesses to present, indicating that the case is far from over.

Meanwhile, defense lawyerGeorgee Kadzipatike expressed satisfaction with the progress of the case, saying it is moving smoothly.

Senior Resident Magistrate Bracious Kondowe has warned both parties to adhere to the scheduled court dates and times, emphasizing the importance of respecting the court’s time.

The court’s decision to postpone the case underscores the need for patience and diligence in ensuring justice is served.

The case has garnered significant attention, with many awaiting the outcome. As the trial continues, it is clear that the court is committed to hearing the case and delivering a fair verdict.

The next hearing is scheduled for April 17, 2026, and all parties are expected to be present.
