Dan Lu, the popular artist known for his defiant personality and chameleon-like political moves, is set to release a new song titled “Jomo” this Friday. This song is dedicated to the incumbent Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Blantyre City Mayor Isaac Jomo Osman, who has been in office for nearly two months and is receiving public praise for his strong performance.

The release comes amidst an online debate about Lu’s political affiliations. Critics suggest that his shift from supporting the DPP to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) reflects a lack of consistency, particularly given that many believe the MCP lost to the DPP due to the failed leadership of President Lazarus Chakwera.

As the situation unfolds, some fans feel that Lu is caught between a rock and a hard place, attempting to navigate the tricky waters of Malawian politics.

This sentiment is echoed by numerous observers who question Lu’s motives, arguing that he may be trying to curry favor with the DPP in pursuit of potential business opportunities.

This skepticism is further fueled by his previous stance against the DPP, during which he released songs that seemed to overshadow the party, akin to bright stars eclipsing the moon.

In light of these concerns, Dan Lu recently took to Facebook, where he praised Mayor Jomo for his leadership.

He emphasized the importance of supporting citizens who excel despite challenges, stating, “I was not born envious! Every citizen doing better in my country deserves my support. Jomo, receive your flowers while you still live; you have led by example to the hopeless.”

Dan Lu, whose real name is Daniel Lufan, entered the music scene in 2004 with his hit “Shupie.”

However, as his political involvement continues to spark backlash from fans across the nation, it complicates his standing within both the musical and political arenas.
