Nigerian, Afrobeats superstar Davido has announced he is withdrawing his custody case regarding his daughter, Imade Adeleke, stating that he never intended to seek full custody but rather a joint arrangement with her mother, Sophia Momodu.
In a series of posts on his X account, Davido addressed the ongoing legal battle, emphasizing that there were no winners in the situation. “Nobody won, nobody lost… so I don’t know why some people are celebrating… there’s nothing to celebrate,” he said.
The case stems from a motion Davido filed in 2024 at the Lagos High Court, seeking “unrestricted access” to Imade, who was born on May 14, 2015. In her response, Sophia claimed she has always allowed Davido access to their daughter.
Davido explained that a deeply inappropriate moment in court prompted his decision to discontinue the case, particularly after an opposing lawyer referenced the tragic passing of his son. “That’s a no-no! Lowest blow!” he revealed.
Despite the end of the legal battle, Davido expressed confidence that his daughter would one day understand the efforts he made for her. “My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her… let’s move on,” he concluded.
In 2023, Sophia revealed plans to change Imade’s surname to hers, claiming she has been both mother and father to her.
