As Malawi welcomed the New Year, 500 elderly and underprivileged residents of Area 44 in Lilongwe received a special festive gift, thanks to a collaborative effort between Listed NBS Bank and Beautify Malawi Trust (BEAM Trust).

The donation, valued at K100 million, was distributed at the Landscape Grounds as part of the season’s celebrations, an initiative championed by the First Lady of Malawi, Madame Gertrude Mutharika, who praised NBS Bank and NICO Group for their commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.

“I want to thank NBS Bank and NICO Group for the support they have provided to us. You have shown that you truly care for people. I would like to appeal to other organisations and individuals to emulate what these two have done today,” Madame Mutharika said.

Each hamper contained essential items aimed at improving daily living, including 10 kilograms of maize flour, 5 kilograms of rice, 2 litres of cooking oil, bathing soap, washing soap, sugar, salt, matches, soya pieces, and 2 litres of Sobo.

NBS Bank Board Chairman and NICO Group Managing Director, Vizenge Kumwenda, highlighted that the initiative mirrors the First Lady’s vision and reflects the organisations’ commitment to community upliftment.

“At NBS Bank, we believe true progress happens when we stand together with our people by responding to their needs with compassion, dedication, and care. Because at the heart of everything we do, We Care A Little More,” said Kumwenda.

The festive donation is part of NBS Bank and BEAM Trust’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities and reinforce the spirit of giving in Malawi.
