Technical Trainer (Process)

Duties and Responsibilities

– Deliver technical training within the assigned discipline (process) through classroom, practical, workplace and on-the-job learning interventions.
– Translate approved training plans into practical training schedules, learning activities and coaching programmes.
– Lead technical onboarding for new entrants before placement into live operational roles.
– Conduct role-readiness assessments to confirm understanding of procedures, equipment, tools, safety requirements and performance expectations.
– Provide one-on-one coaching, refresher training and technical skills reinforcement where capability gaps are identified.
– Work with supervisors and operational leaders to identify employees requiring additional development support.
– Develop and maintain technical training materials, learner guides, assessments, job aids and practical learning resources.
– Review and update technical content to reflect operational changes, legislative requirements and industry best practice.
– Work with operational leaders and the L&D Specialist to identify technical skills gaps, performance issues and development priorities.
– Maintain accurate training records, attendance registers, competency assessments, onboarding records and learner progress documentation.
– Build strong relationships with operational leaders, supervisors and subject matter experts to align technical training with operational priorities.
– Work closely with the L&D Specialist to integrate technical capability requirements into site learning plans.
– Promoting and adhering to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competitive Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Job Requirements

– Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Science and Technology, or related fields.
– Recognised Facilitator, Assessor, Coaching or Technical Training certification is advantageous.
– Minimum 5 years’ operational experience within food manufacturing, processing or industrial environment.
– Demonstrated experience in technical training, coaching, skills transfer, competency assessment or workplace learning.
