Duties and responsibilities
• Define and lead the estate security strategy, ensuring security priorities support operational continuity, employee safety, asset protection and the site’s overall risk profile.
• Design and govern the site security operating model, clearly defining the roles of the internal team, outsourced provider, security technologies and operational stakeholders.
• Set security policies, standards, controls and service expectations covering guarding, surveillance, investigations, community policing, access control and emergency response.
• Review security performance, incident trends, investigation findings, contractor results and technology effectiveness to assess the strength of the control environment.
• Direct strategic intervention where contractor underperformance, misconduct or control failures create unacceptable exposure for the business.
• Set the strategic framework for security intelligence, investigations, loss prevention and evidence management across the estate.
• Review material investigation findings and ensure significant criminal, disciplinary, legal or control matters are escalated to the appropriate governance authority.
• Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Qualifications and experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Risk Management, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Business Administration or a related field.
• Professional certification in security management, investigation, fraud examination, emergency management or security technology is preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years’ progressive experience in corporate security, law enforcement, military security, investigations, intelligence, emergency response or security risk management.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to lead a diverse team and manage cross-functional teams and external contractors.
• Strong planning and organisational skills.
