A penalty shootout crowned the champions, but the bigger goal was bringing communities together as four teams used football to promote peace and unity in Blantyre.

Admarc Socials beat Chilumba on penalties at Kuhes Sports Complex to win the Football Tournament for Peace organised by the Ghandi Forum.

The competition brought together four social football teams, giving players an opportunity to connect through sport while promoting peaceful coexistence among communities.

Ghandi Forum executive director Professor Nandini Patel hailed the tournament, describing it as an important platform for promoting harmony through football.

The event was organised in partnership with the Institute for Policy Interaction (IPI) as part of activities commemorating Mahatma Gandhi, the global peace advocate whose birthday falls on October 2.

Reema Rakhan, representing tournament sponsor Pooja Hardware Suppliers, said the company was pleased to support the initiative.

She said football encourages togetherness and peaceful competition, reflecting the values championed by Gandhi.

Mapanga FC finished third, while Kontek FC took fourth place. Beyond the tournament, the Ghandi Forum has also organised a webinar on non-violent communication this month, with another session scheduled for October 30 as part of its efforts to promote peaceful engagement.
