First Capital Bank’s Memory Mwathengere has been named Malawi’s 2026 PR Practitioner of the Year.
She beat National Bank’s Akossa Mphepo-Hiwa and Airtel’s Norah Chavula at the Public Relations Society of Malawi’s lake conference and 10-year anniversary in Salima.
Mwathengere said the award was not just personal but a win for FCB, reflecting the bank’s push for trusted, strategic communication.
“This is not just a personal milestone, but a win for First Capital Bank and a reflection of the value we place on strategic communication and building a strong, trusted brand. I am grateful for the recognition and encouraged to keep learning, growing and contributing to the profession,” said Mwathengere.
Judge Dr George Mindano praised her for aligning PR with business goals, boosting customer acquisition, digital adoption and investor confidence.
He said Mwathengere’s work showed how modern PR can deliver tangible business value, communication to brand positioning, client engagement and institutional trust.
Her standout project was FCB’s digital campaign Chinthuchi Tatenga, which offered a K10 million prize to drive mobile and digital banking use.
Mindano said Mwathengere’s creativity and measurable performance proved that corporate PR is no longer about visibility alone, but about building brands, strengthening relationships and driving sustainable growth.
“Through her creativity, measurable performance and a strong understanding of the Bank’s business priorities, she has demonstrated that modern corporate PR is not simply about visibility but also building brands, creating value, strengthening relationships and contributing to sustainable business growth,” said Mindano.
The recognition cements connecting Mwathengere’s place among Malawi’s leading corporate communicators and signals a new era for PR in the country.
