About the role

Consultant to Facilitate Digital Advocacy and Strategic Communications Training for Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in Zimbabwe

The Realisation of the African Disability Protocol (RAD-P) Project seeks to promote the rights, inclusion and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in Zimbabwe through advocacy, policy engagement, awareness raising and institutional strengthening of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs). The project supports OPDs to advocate for the implementation of disability-inclusive laws, policies and programmes, including the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the National Disability Policy, the Disability Act and the African Disability Protocol.

The RAD-P Project will convene a four-day Digital Advocacy and Strategic Communications Training targeting partner OPDs. The training seeks to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills to strengthen organisational visibility, policy influence and stakeholder engagement through strategic use of digital communication tools and platforms.

Sightsavers are therefore seeking to engage a qualified consultant to design, facilitate and document the training workshop.

Purpose of the Consultancy

The consultant will design and deliver a practical and participatory training programme that strengthens the capacity of OPDs to utilise strategic communications, digital advocacy, accessible communication approaches, website management, media engagement and ethical AI tools to advance disability rights advocacy and organisational visibility.

Objective of the consultancy

The consultant will support the RAD-P to strengthen the capacity of participating OPDs to effectively utilise strategic communications, websites, social media platforms and media engagement approaches. They will equip participants with practical skills in website development and management, content creation, digital storytelling and ethical use of AI tools, and enhance their understanding of accessibility standards, digital governance, media regulations and data protection requirements.

The consultant will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing the concept note and other relevant project documents.
  • Developing an inception report outlining the understanding of the assignment, methodology, workplan and approach.
  • Developing training materials, presentations, handouts, practical exercises and case studies.
  • Developing pre- and post-training assessment tools.
  • Ensure all training materials are accessible to persons with different disabilities.

Facilitate a four-day training programme covering;

  • Strategic communications for disability rights advocacy.
  • Website development, management and administration.
  • Affordable digital tools and AI for advocacy.
  • Legal, policy and ethical frameworks governing digital advocacy.
  • Social media management and digital advocacy.
  • Advocacy content creation and digital storytelling.
  • Media engagement and public relations.
  • Accessible communication and inclusive digital content.

Post-Training Phase

  • Analyse participant evaluation results and learning assessments.
  • Prepare a comprehensive training report.

Skills and Experience

As the successful consultant you will possess relevant experience or a Master’s degree or higher in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Development Studies, Information Technology, Disability Studies or a related field. You will hold extensive experience in strategic communications, digital advocacy, media engagement, website development or related fields, and a background in facilitating capacity-building workshops for civil society organisations, NGOs or OPDs.

Further requirements include:

  • Strong knowledge of disability inclusion and accessible communication practices.
  • Practical experience in website development platforms such as WordPress, Google Sites and Wix.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social media management, digital campaigns and content creation.
  • Familiarity with Zimbabwe’s digital governance, media and data protection frameworks.
  • Experience in the ethical application of AI tools for communication and advocacy purposes.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication and report-writing skills.

We anticipate interviews will take place during the week of 26 October 2026. The evaluation process will include a presentation and an oral interview to be completed by shortlisted candidates.
