Debt pressure has ended the life of a 16-year-old boy in Salima.
The deceased, Phillipo Malizani, died after hanging himself from a ridge pole of a house.
Salima Police Public Relations Officer Rabecca Ndiwate said Malizani had unpaid loans from people within the village.
“A creditor came to him demanding his money back. Later, another one came with the same issue, of which he failed to settle them accordingly,” Ndiwate said.
At around 09:00 hours, he was found hanging inside his locked house.
A postmortem examination conducted by Salima District Hospital revealed that the cause of death was suffocation secondary to strangulation.
Malizani hailed from Jolamu Village, Traditional Authority Khombedza, Salima.
Police in the district are advising people facing challenges to seek counselling and guidance from the police, parents, guardians, community and religious leaders.
