A K500 debt dispute has landed a 22-year-old woman in police custody in Ntcheu after she was arrested for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old boy.
Ntcheu Police spokesperson Jacob Khembo said the suspect, identified as Rachael Phiri, works at a bar and allegedly owed the boy K500.
According to Khembo, earlier this month Phiri asked the boy to leave a table for her landlord, promising to give him K500. The boy reportedly kept asking for his money, but Phiri did not pay him.
On September 6, Phiri allegedly told the boy that she did not have the money and that they should instead settle the matter. Police allege that she subsequently had sexual intercourse with the boy.
The boy reportedly kept the matter to himself until September 19, when he noticed wounds and injuries to his private parts. He then told his mother, who reported the matter to YONECO officials in Ntcheu.
YONECO subsequently reported the case to police, leading to Phiri’s arrest.
Phiri is expected to appear in court, where she will answer a charge relating to having sexual intercourse with a child.
