Those already counting down to the end of the DPP’s time in power may need to put the calendar away. A senior party figure has pushed the party’s political ambitions far beyond the current generation.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) national women director Mary Thom Navicha has declared that the party is “here to stay until 2095” as she urged women to take advantage of economic empowerment opportunities under the current government.
Navicha made the remarks in Area 36 and Mgona in Lilongwe on Wednesday while distributing party materials to women as part of activities marking one year since Malawians voted for the DPP under Peter Mutharika in the 2025 Tripartite Elections.
“Let’s get loans, let’s get development projects, and let’s move forward because today’s DPP is here to stay until 2095,” said Navicha.
She said women were among those who supported the DPP’s return to power because they had been affected by what she described as bad governance under the previous administration.
Navicha, who was accompanied by deputy national women director Martha Mzomela Ngwila, said the DPP government had allocated K100 million to women in every constituency for economic empowerment.
She encouraged women to access loans and pursue development projects, saying the focus should now be on turning political support into tangible economic opportunities.
