The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has admitted that it lost government after failing to listen to the concerns of Malawians.
The party says its post-mortem report found that it had become disconnected from voters, contributing to its defeat in the 2025 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The findings were presented and discussed during a recent meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), which also focused on strategies for rebuilding the party ahead of the 2030 general elections.
Speaking on Zodiak Broadcasting Station’s Tiuzeni Zoona programme, MCP spokesperson Jessie Kabwila said the report identified several factors that contributed to the party’s defeat.
Kabwila said one of the major issues was the party’s failure to adequately respond to concerns raised by Malawians during its time in government.
She said the post-mortem also found that economic hardships experienced by citizens contributed to the party’s loss in the elections.
According to Kabwila, the findings will help MCP understand its weaknesses and guide the party as it develops strategies to regain public confidence ahead of the 2030 polls.
