A woman’s attempt to move on after separation has ended in tragedy after her ex-husband allegedly killed her amid pressure for them to reunite.
Police in Bangwe, Blantyre have arrested 48-year-old Mike Phiri for allegedly murdering his 33-year-old ex-wife, Madalo Moffat, following a domestic dispute in Namatapa Township.
According to Bangwe Police spokesperson Sam Kadyole, the couple separated in 2025, but Phiri allegedly continued pressuring Moffat to reconcile.
Kadyole says Phiri confronted Moffat at her workplace in Mpingwe on Sunday before the disagreement continued as the two walked home.
Police allege that the situation turned violent when Phiri stabbed Moffat with a knife after a passerby attempted to intervene.
Moffat was rushed to Bangwe Health Centre, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Community members later pursued and apprehended Phiri before handing him over to police.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to answer a murder charge, while Moffat’s body has been taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for a postmortem.
