Competition among players in the FDH Bank Premiership is expected to intensify after the Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) unveiled a K40 million sponsorship package for the ‘Goal and Save of the Month Award’ in the 2026 season.
The deal, signed with the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) during a ceremony in Blantyre on Monday, will see outstanding players rewarded every month for spectacular goals and brilliant saves, a development aimed at boosting performance and excitement in Malawi’s top-flight league.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, MAGLA Director General Muchanakhwaye Mpuluka said the initiative is aimed at motivating players while deepening the authority’s involvement in football development.
“We believe this partnership will inspire players to raise their performance levels as they compete for monthly recognition. It is not only a motivation for the athletes but also a source of pride for us as an institution supporting football development,” said Mpuluka.
Mpuluka added that MAGLA will also use the partnership to promote responsible gambling among football supporters across the country.
“As MAGLA, we remain committed to encouraging responsible gambling. Through football, we can reach a wider audience and effectively deliver this message to our stakeholders,” he said.
SULOM Vice President Ronald Chiwaula described the sponsorship as timely, saying the monthly awards will help boost competitiveness and contribute to the growth of local football.
“This partnership comes at a crucial time as we continue to reposition and strengthen the league. The introduction of these awards will create healthy competition among players and contribute to the overall growth of the game,” said Chiwaula.
