The Ministry of Health and Sanitation has called on all parents and guardians to bring their children for polio vaccination during a nationwide campaign starting this week.

In a statement, Dan Namarika, Secretary for Health and Sanitation, emphasized the urgent need to protect children under 10 from the debilitating effects of the polio virus.

“Polio can cause unexplained weakness in the limbs and difficulty walking, sometimes leading to permanent paralysis,” Namarika said. “Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent this disease.”

The campaign is scheduled to run from 11th to 14th February 2026, during which all children under the age of 10 are encouraged to be vaccinated.

Namarika stressed that the success of the campaign depends on community participation.

“We urge every parent and guardian to bring their children. Together, we can control and ultimately stop polio,” he said.

He further said the vaccination is safe and widely available at local health centers across the country during the campaign period.

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation called on all families to take part in this vital initiative, reaffirming its commitment to a polio-free future.
