The relocation of the Malawi Prison Service headquarters from Lilongwe back to Zomba has reached an advanced stage, with strong government backing and smooth coordination among key stakeholders.

Malawi Prison Service Public Relations Officer Steve Meke has confirmed that the exercise is progressing as planned, citing effective collaboration and overwhelming institutional support as key drivers of the transition.

“Yes, I can confirm that the relocation exercise of the prisons headquarters from Lilongwe back to Zomba is progressing very well,” Meke said.

“The most encouraging aspect is the level of coordination and collaboration among all stakeholders involved.”

He added that government support has been instrumental in maintaining momentum and expressed confidence that the set timeline will be met if current conditions remain stable.

“With the overwhelming support we are receiving from government, it is our sincere hope that, all factors remaining constant, we will meet the deadline,” Meke said.

The move is part of wider administrative restructuring efforts aimed at enhancing operational efficiency within the Malawi Prison Service.
