A 16-year-old girl, Livines Chiyipira has committed suicide at Nselema in the District.
Public Relations Officer for Machinga Police Station, Sergeant Western Kansire, confirmed the incident.
Kansire told the local media that the incident occurred on December 18, 2025, at around 05:00 hours.
He said that Mercy Denja, a mother to the deceased reported to police on December 17, 2025, at around 05:00 hours that, Livines picked up a quarrel with her young sister which ended up into fighting.
The altercation was halted, but Livines, now deceased, remained irate and uncommunicative.
Driven by rage, she ingested unknown tablets at approximately 11:00 hours and collapsed instantly.
She was rushed to Chikweo Health Center, where she succumbed to her condition while receiving medical attention.
A post-mortem examination conducted by a medical practitioner at the same health center determined that her death resulted from the poison she had consumed.
Livines Chiipira was a resident of Mvoniha village, under Traditional Authority Ntumbwinda in Machinga.
