Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the effective operation of the laboratory by conducting medical laboratory tests, maintaining quality standards, ensuring availability of laboratory reagents and consumables, and supporting accurate diagnosis and treatment through timely and reliable laboratory services.
- Ensure that all laboratory procedures comply with approved medical standards, internal policies, safety requirements, and professional laboratory practice guidelines.
- Order laboratory reagents and consumables in a timely manner by obtaining quotations from suppliers and ensuring continuous availability of critical stock.
- Prepare and manage the laboratory budget for reagents, consumables, and other laboratory requirements.
- Enforce the medical laboratory code of conduct by guiding laboratory staff on professional ethics, safety standards, confidentiality, and responsible handling of patient information.
- Calibrate existing and newly acquired laboratory equipment using equipment manuals, standard procedures, and quality control tools.
- Promote and adhere to Illovo's procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)
Job Requirements
- Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, or related field from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body where required.
- Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in a busy hospital, clinical, or research laboratory environment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of environmental and health hazards within the workplace
- Basic computer skills
