The people running Malawi’s key governance institutions are facing a review of their conditions of service as Parliament examines proposed changes to their employment terms.

The review covers heads of the Independent Complaints Commission, the Office of the Ombudsman, the Office of Public Officers Declarations and the Legal Aid Bureau.

The Public Appointments Committee (PAC) held the deliberations at Parliament Building in Lilongwe on Thursday, with technical support from the Department of Human Resource Management and Development (DHRMD).

PAC Vice Chairperson Joshua Malango led the committee in scrutinising conditions of service for Legal Aid Bureau employees.

The review follows earlier sessions this week in which the committee shortlisted candidates for key positions, including Commissioner for the Independent Complaints Commission for the Judiciary (ICCJ), Director of the Office of Public Officers Declarations and Deputy Director of Legal Aid.

PAC is expected to interview candidates for the three positions next week.
