National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc is looking beyond Malawi as it seeks to expand its regional business reach through participation in a major trade fair in Mozambique.
The bank is among exhibitors at the 61st Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM), which ran from August 31 to September 6, 2026, at the Ricatla International Trade Fair and Exhibition Centre in Marracuene.
Its participation received a boost on Monday when Mozambican President Daniel Chapo visited the NBM plc stand and engaged with the bank’s representatives.
Chapo welcomed NBM plc to Mozambique and assured the team of his support during the trade fair.
NBM Senior Manager in the Retail Banking Division, Eric Bob Munthali, said the fair is giving the bank an opportunity to engage businesses looking to expand into new markets.
“Being part of FACIM allows us to connect with businesses that are looking beyond their traditional markets and to understand the kind of financial support they need to grow, invest and participate in regional trade,” said Munthali.
He said the fair’s theme, Digital and Energy Transformation towards a Sustainable Economy, reflects changing demands facing businesses and financial institutions.
“The digital and energy transformation is particularly relevant because businesses need innovative and sustainable ways of financing their growth,” said Munthali.
He added that NBM plc is using the platform to establish relationships with potential partners and explore opportunities that could strengthen economic ties between Malawi and Mozambique.
“Our presence here is about building relationships, identifying opportunities and positioning NBM plc as a partner for businesses pursuing growth within Malawi and across the region,” he said.
FACIM is Mozambique’s largest international trade and investment fair, bringing together businesses, investors, government officials and other stakeholders from the region and beyond.
