Residents of Mongu in Zambia’s Western Province were left in shock this morning after discovering that 11 infant graves at Chisonga Graveyard had been opened with the bodies of the babies missing.

According to reports by prime Tv News, the crew that visited the cemetery found several graves dug open.

On top of the disturbed graves were baby skulls, jawbones, blankets, and clothes believed to have belonged to the infants.

Surgical gloves, suspected to have been used by those behind the act, were also scattered on some of the graves.

In a number of the graves, the bodies were completely missing, leaving only the empty graves and scattered items.

The incident has left the community at Chisonga in fear and anger, questioning how such an act could happen at a place meant for rest and dignity.

Authorities are expected to visit the scene and commence investigations.
