After years away from the limelight, former minister Henry Mussa has re-emerged, ending a quiet spell with a new chapter in public service.

The Malawi government has appointed Mussa as the Malawi Institute of Tourism managing director, with the appointment taking effect on 7 July 2026.

In a circular to staff members dated 10 July, Acting Chief Executive Officer C. Kamwana Karin said the appointment was made through the MIT Board of Trustees.

“I write to inform all members of staff that the Government of Malawi (GoM), through the MIT Board of Trustees has appointed Mr. Henry Mussa as the Executive Director of Malawi Institute of Tourism. The appointment is effective 7th July, 2026,” reads the circular.

Mussa, a former Member of Parliament for Chiradzulu East, has held several government positions, including Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Information.

His appointment comes as the tourism sector continues to push for stronger skills development and improved standards to support Malawi’s ambitions of growing tourism as an economic driver.
